Everyone has a story. Their story could be joyful, horrifying, tragic, unjust, hilarious, inspiring or many other things. One thing is for certain it has had an undeniable and profound impact on their lives.
It could have empowered them, made them stronger people. It may have inspired them to make the world a better place. Possibly it embittered them, causing them to build walls around their heart and become cynical about life in general. There are many ways people react to events in their lives. The catalyst to life changing situations is not always easy to pinpoint. It is usually preceded by many small decisions and choices. Sometimes, life just deals tragic cards. How people react to tragedy whether they find healing and peace, rise above it or let it consume them will determine the tone in their lives. We all are the authors of our own stories. We need to understand, that although we cannot always control the events in our life, we can control how we react to them. The choices we make, the thoughts that we have, they are creating our reality. This is a subject that has been discussed by many prominent spiritual minds, for example;
“A man is but the product of his thoughts. What he thinks, he becomes.” Mahatma Gandhi
“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think, we become.” Buddha
“Thought is the sculptor who can create the person you want to be.” Henry David Thoreau
“Whatever a person’s mind dwells on intensely and with firm resolve, that is exactly what he becomes.” Shankaracharya
It is no secret that we are who we think we are. When one has a negative thought, it creates a negative emotion. Too many strong negative emotions can cause negative physical reactions in the body. Over time, those physical reactions can cause serious health issues. Just think, if negative thoughts have such power, then so to do positive thoughts. Except to many people, expressing positive thoughts to themselves seems to be an exceedingly difficult thing to do. It just takes time and effort, but once one gets into the habit of only entertaining positive thoughts in their mind, and they start to feel and experience the benefits that come with them, they will not want it any other way. Just remember, when a negative thought pops into your head, it is only a thought, and a thought can be changed. When one says something to oneself enough times, eventually one will believe it. If it is so easy to believe one is ugly, worthless and unimaginative, then why would it not be just as easy to believe that one is beautiful, worthy and inspiring?
A truly incredible thing to know is that you can change the direction of your life any time you want. You just have to start thinking about it differently.
What do you want your story to be?
